Day-1: AHMEDABAD - DASADA
Arrive at Ahmedabad and travel 90 km (two hours north) to Dasada. Evening
safari in the Little Rann of Kutch, a desert wildlife sanctuary, known
as the last abode of the Asiatic wild ass in the Indian peninsula. During
the drive, watch for other endangered wildlife like the wolf, Indian
and desert foxes, Indian gazelle, Macqueen's bustard, etc. Witness the
sunset at Bajana Lake, where flamingos, pelicans, demmossile and common
cranes, and other magnificent birds gather in numbers beyond comprehension.
Meals and o/n at Rann Riders, an imaginatively designed safari resort
with a/c cottages built from local materials to resemble a local village
featuring long wicker beds, work table, dressing area and a tiled bath
with hot-and-cold showers.
Day-2: DASADA - BHUJ
Day-3: BHUJ
Day-4: BHUJ - GONDAL
Drive to Gondal, 250 km (Four to five hours drive) where you will stay
in the luxurious comfort of huge, high-ceilinged rooms of the Riverside
Palace/Orchard Palace, both 19th century heritage homes converted by
the Maharaja into a heritage hotel.
See the royal fleet of vintage and classic cars, the 1748 AD Naulakha
Palace and the Swaminarayan Temple.
O/n at one of the two heritage homes.
Day-5: GONDAL - GIR
Drive to Gir (123 km, about three hours driving time) calling in on
the way at Junagadh to see the imposing Uparkot Fort, Buddhist cave-sites,
3rd century BC Ashoka rock edicts, the palace museum filled with Nawabi
treasures, the flamboyant royal mausoleum complexes.
Arrive lunch-time at Gir Birding Lodge and depart after your meal for
a safari in the Gir National Park & Wildlife Sanctuary. This deciduous
forest is the last abode of the Asiatic lion and also has a thriving
panther (leopard) population. It also has a large population of chital
or spotted deer, sambar, blue bull antelope, chinkara gazelle, chousingha
(the world's only four-horned antelope), wild boar and other wildlife.
A number of attractive birds can be seen on the game-drive trail.

Day-4 & 5: GIR NATIONAL
PARK & WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Morning and evening drives in the Gir forests to look for the
two big cats and to watch other wildlife.
Between the drives, visit Somnath to see the shore temple (one of the
12 holy abodes of Shiva), Sun Temple, Ahilya Temple and other monuments.
Dinner and o/n at Gir Birding Lodge
Day-6: Drive back to
Ahmedabad for return flight.
